A new trailer for Greta Gerwig’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew features the Led Zeppelin epic “Stairway to Heaven.” It’s a big deal because the band has famously refused previous films that sought to license the Led Zeppelin IV masterpiece.

As Consequence pointed out, some of the films that wanted to use “Stairway” are Wayne’s World, which hilariously spoofed Zep’s denial, and Cameron Crowe’s Almost Famous. So why is Led Zeppelin finally licensing the song now?

LZ frontman Robert Plant is a well-known fan of the fantasy genre, specifically the works of J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis, the latter the author of The Chronicles of Narnia series. Plant has injected references to Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings into his songs and C.S. Lewis’ Narnia has also influenced Plant’s work in Led Zeppelin.

At the trailer premiere, Greta Gerwig told well-documented fantasy fan Stephen Colbert that she had been in contact with Led Zeppelin about using “Stairway” in her Narnia film, as per Rolling Stone.

“I talked to them about a lot of the themes of the film,” Gerwig said. “They saw the heart and the story and the drama in it.”

The Magician’s Nephew kicks off a five-week theatrical run on February 12, 2027. The film then heads to Netflix on April 2, following the streaming platform’s first theatrical run. Check out the trailer for Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew featuring “Stairway to Heaven” below:
