Audrey Hobert Offers ‘Who’s The Clown?’ Standout ‘Chateau’ On ‘Kimmel’

“‘Chateau’ was the second song I wrote, and I wrote it the day after I attended this afterparty for the Grammys.”

Audrey Hobert performed “Chateau” on Jimmy Kimmel Live during the show’s week in Brooklyn. The track appears on Hobert’s 2025 debut album, Who’s The Clown?

Hobert paired her Kimmel performance with a trio of shows at the Brooklyn Paramount, which she wraps up tonight (October 1). The NYC concerts kick off a fall run for the singer-songwriter, which includes appearances at the Austin City Limits Music Festival along with headline stops in Nashville, Chicago and Oakland before heading to Europe.

Hobert explained in an interview with Radio One International that “Chateau” was inspired by a Grammys afterparty she attended with Gracie Abrams:

“‘Chateau’ was the second song I wrote, and I wrote it the day after I attended this afterparty for the Grammys. Because of my friendship with Gracie, I found myself there.

She’s always brought me along to industry parties or parties with famous people. It’s sort of a crapshoot whether or not I’m going to have a good time at them… because I’ll be in a full conversation with someone and they’re not even looking me in the eye. They’re just looking past my shoulder, trying to see whoever’s famous behind me. So whether I enjoy that feeling just depends on what kind of mood I’m in.

“At this particular Grammys afterparty, though, the only feeling I had was, ‘This is so stupid.’ That’s why I wrote the song ‘Chateau.’ It wasn’t a cry for help, but more like a last straw: I am done feeling like a ghost at these things. I am so worth talking to. I wish people would talk to me more.”
