KATSEYE brought their fierce new single “Animal” to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday night. Lara, Daniela, Yoonchae and Megan — currently a four-piece with Sophia and Manon on hiatus — delivered a high-energy performance of the Ed Sheeran co-written track.
“Animal” will appear on KATSEYE’s upcoming five-track EP, Wild, due out tomorrow, August 14. The single was written by Sheeran with Omer Fedi and Blake Slatkin, who also co-wrote and produced KATSEYE’s breakout hit “Touch.”
The quartet’s appearance on Fallon comes as KATSEYE enter a new era with Wild. During a conversation with host Jimmy Fallon, the members were asked to describe the new chapter. Avanzini summed it up with one word: “Wild.” Raj added, “I’d say maturity. Growing up.”
Raj also explained how the group came to work with Sheeran on “Animal.” KATSEYE met the superstar at the NRJ Awards in France, where he told them he had a song he thought would be right for the group.
“He came to us and was like, ‘I’ve got this song for you,’” Raj recalled. “He wrote it with Blake and Omer, who are the guys who wrote ‘Touch’ for us as well. So it was like a full circle moment and we love it.”
The Tonight Show appearance also put the spotlight on KATSEYE’s current four-member lineup. Sophia recently announced that she is taking a hiatus to focus on her mental health, while Manon remains on a hiatus from the group she started in February.
During the interview, Raj spoke about the support KATSEYE have received for both absent members.
“We have nothing but so much love and support for Sophia and Manon,” Raj said. “And it’s beautiful to see how the Eyekons give them so much support and also continue to support us as we’re here.”
KATSEYE are gearing up to embark on the Wildworld Tour in September. After a run across Europe, the group will kick off the North American leg on October 13. The Wildworld Tour concludes November 27 in Mexico City.
The upcoming run marks KATSEYE’s first arena tour. Yoonchae admitted she’s feeling a mix of nerves and excitement about the jump to much larger stages.
“I feel like it will hit me once I get there because it’s our first arena tour,” Yoonchae told Fallon. “It’s a much bigger stage. I’m a little bit nervous. And it’s very exciting.”
For now, KATSEYE are keeping the focus on “Animal” and the arrival of Wild. Watch the group’s Tonight Show appearance below:
