Written by Björk celebrated Echolalia, a one-day festival held under the solar eclipse’s path of totality on August 12, by throwing a full-on rave. Sporting an extravagant balloon gown designed by Robert Wun for his Fall 2026 Couture Collection and sipping a glass of white wine, Björk kept 7,000 people dancing to songs by Rosalía, Kelela, and Marina Herlop at the Víðistaðatún sculpture park in Hafnarfjörður, Iceland. Björk’s hour-long set overlapped with the exact moment—which lasted one minute and four seconds—that the moon completely obfuscated the sun. Echolalia also featured a DJ set by Arca and performances by 33EMYBW and Loscaballos, as well as local Icelandic musicians Ronja Jóhannsdóttir, Sideproject, Gummi Arnalds, and Knackered. Plus, the festival marked the 40th anniversary of Smekkleysa (Bad Taste), a pioneering Icelandic label founded in 1986 by members of the country’s experimental music scene.
Fans who attended the event could also swing by Björk’s Echolalia exhibition at the National Gallery of Iceland, which runs through September 19. That show features installations inspired by three songs: two from 2022’s Fossora (“Sorrowful Soil” and “Ancestress”) and one from an as-yet-unannounced “forthcoming album.”
