Remi Wolf Gets ‘Clean And Clear’ On New Album ‘Mud’

Remi Wolf will release her third studio album, Mud, on October 9 via Island Records. The singer-songwriter also announced “Bottle,” the LP’s second preview following “Twiggy,” will arrive this Thursday, August 20.

Mud features 11 songs and finds Wolf expanding the musical world introduced by “Twiggy.” According to the artist, the new collection is warmer and more spacious while retaining the adventurous spirit that has defined her work.

Wolf created Mud following a period of constant touring, writing and recording that prompted her to reconsider both what she wanted to say and how she wanted to make music. The album began taking shape during early sessions in Nashville before finding its center during a retreat to Big Bear with longtime collaborator Jared Solomon and friends Jack DeMeo, Jamie McLaughlin and Gigi Grombacher.

The group spent their time in Big Bear writing songs, sharing family dinners and passing microphones around the kitchen. Wolf came to view the collective as a “family band,” a spirit that continued throughout the making of Mud.

The collaborators later reconvened at Electric Lady Studios in New York and gathered one final time in Joshua Tree to complete the album. Wolf and company leaned into live instrumentation and recording together in the same room, favoring spontaneity over perfection. Wolf also frequently took a seat behind the drum kit during the sessions.

“I feel like I’ve crossed into a new phase of life because of this album,” Wolf said. “I literally felt like I was covered in shit. And now, at the end of the album process, I feel so clean and clear. It has been a very cleansing record to make for me.”

The arrival of Mud follows Wolf’s acclaimed 2022 album Juno and 2024’s Big Ideas. “Bottle” will provide the next taste of Mud when it arrives on Thursday. For now, stream “Twiggy” below:
