Kevin Morby performed “Javelin” from his forthcoming new album, Little Wide Open, on last night’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live. Sylvan Esso’s Amelia Meath was among the cast of musicians supporting Morby’s late-night television performance.
Morby recorded Little Wide Open, due May 15, with producer Aaron Dessner of The National at his Long Pond Studio in Stuyvesant, New York. Meath appears on the studio version of “Javelin.”
“This is a song I wrote about being in love with someone you keep circling around the globe, relentlessly traveling through the air and down highways, and then returning home alone to middle America,” Morby said regarding the song. “Amelia Meath shines here, with her incredible vocals. I had invited her into the studio and asked that she create a backing choir out of just her voice – but her presence is so special that her backing vocals can’t help but take the lead.”
Lucinda Williams, Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon and Hand Habits’ Meg Duffy were also among the album’s many contributors.
Duffy, who was a member of Morby’s touring band for several years, was part of the collective performing with him on Kimmel. Also sharing the stage was fellow guitarist Liam Kazar, bassist Cyrus Gengras, percussionist Dylan Fujioka, keyboardist Rose Droll and drummer Chloe Saavedra.
