Karina Rykman Reunites With My Morning Jacket At Hoochenanny Festival

Karina Rykman added another chapter to her ongoing musical relationship with My Morning Jacket on Saturday at the Hoochenanny Festival in Fairport, New York. The bassist/vocalist sat in with Jim James and company for the final four songs of their set at Perinton Center Park Amphitheater.

Rykman, who performed with her own band at the festival on Sunday, emerged to guest on “Touch Me I’m Going To Scream Pt. 2.” She then contributed to “Squid Ink” and “Wordless Chorus” before helping to sing the “Mahgeetah” finale.

The appearance marked the latest in a series of collaborations between Rykman and My Morning Jacket. The Louisville-based band invited Rykman to open two Michigan shows in the summer of 2024, leading to their first collaboration on July 2 in Detroit.

A few days later, Karina Rykman and My Morning Jacket were both on the bill for the inaugural Rose On The River Festival. Rykman sat in with MMJ for “Touch Me I’m Going To Scream Pt. 2,” “Louie Louie” and “One Big Holiday” at the Chicago event. More collaborations followed in 2025, when Rykman teamed with the band at their One Big Holiday destination event and then at a pair of October shows in Brooklyn.

My Morning Jacket’s career-spanning set at Hoochenanny featured songs from eight of the band’s 10 studio albums. The group is now off the road until an appearance at the Oceans Calling Festival in Ocean City, Maryland on September 27.

Meanwhile, Karina Rykman is gearing up to release her sophomore album, Late Checkout, on September 25. Rykman will hit the road this fall for an extensive coast-to-coast tour in support of the LP.
