FEATURED FAN MOMENT: GREG MARTENS’ JOURNEY TO MEET THE MOLOTOVS IN PARIS
Every once in a while, a fan story comes along that perfectly captures the kind of grassroots energy that The Molotovs live for. This one comes from longtime music lover, and Hall of Fans Founder, Greg Martens, @Tens , who discovered the band online and ended up flying to meet the band in person.
Below is Greg’s full story — recorded using the Record Your Story tool inside his Hall of Fans Museum Wing — along with photos from his hangouts with the band and a video clip that first caught his attention.
AUDIO TRANSCRIPT (as recorded by Greg):
“Hey everybody, this is my story about meeting the band, The Molotovs from the United Kingdom.
One day, a video came across my Facebook, and they were playing in the street in London, doing Day Tripper. It’s a three piece. And I was like, man, these guys are really good. They’re playing the street. They’re after my own heart. I love the gorilla marketing.

The Molotovs are a fast-rising young British rock trio formed in London in 2020, built around siblings Matt (vocals/guitar) and Issey (bass), with Noah on drums. From the beginning, their identity has been anchored in high-energy, stripped-down guitar rock influenced by The Clash, The Libertines, Arctic Monkeys, Ramones, and late-70s punk and new wave.
Early Years & Rise (2020–2021)
Formed during the tail end of the lockdown era, The Molotovs started out by playing small outdoor “guerrilla” performances, street sets, and DIY shows across London. These early appearances earned them attention on social media for being teenagers playing like seasoned touring musicians, and their rapid technical improvement became part of the band’s story.
Breakthrough Momentum (2021–2023)
As shows returned, The Molotovs quickly graduated from busking and pop-ups to supporting slots and club gigs at well-known London venues like the 100 Club, Dublin Castle, and Hope & Anchor. They also began attracting the attention of established musicians—members of Glen Matlock’s band, The Libertines, and artists on the London indie circuit started sharing their clips and praising their energy.
