Aaron Lee Tasjan returns with a new album, Get Over It, Underdog, on July 17 through Blue Élan Records. The Nashville-based singer-songwriter also shared the single “Lost & Alone.”
Produced by Aaron Lee Tasjan and longtime collaborator Mark Miller, Get Over It, Underdog follows Tasjan’s 2024 album, Stellar Evolution. The upcoming record sees ALT continuing his signature social commentary coupled with introspection by examining the archetype of the underdog. Press materials further detailed Get Over It, Underdog:
Comprised of 11 masterfully crafted songs, Get Over It, Underdog is an ambitious and spirited collection as Tasjan examines the mythology of the American underdog, unraveling its contradictions and complexities with wit, urgency, and a deeply human perspective. The record confronts the idea that the same qualities that elevate an underdog can just as easily lead to their undoing, offering a nuanced portrait of resilience, identity, and self-perception.
The spirit of Aaron’s friend, the late singer-songwriter Todd Snider, who passed away shortly after the LP was completed, also permeates the record and comes to the fore on their co-write “The Real.”
“Snider’s mentorship helped reshape Tasjan’s creative outlook during a period of artistic uncertainty,” as per the press release. “After reaching out to his long-time friend for guidance, Tasjan was met with a thoughtfully considered response that offered both practical direction and philosophical clarity.”
Tasjan previously shared Get Over It, Underdog track “Science Friction” and now follows with “Lost & Alone.”
“‘Lost & Alone’ is a song for when you feel unseen or passed over,” Tasjan said of the new track via a social media post. “Living on the street and battling addiction, the song’s main character would give anything to feel a human connection, to feel less fear, to find their way back to something that feels like home. It’s a universal feeling, though. We all experience those times in life where for whatever reason we can feel stepped over or like our pain goes unseen, unacknowledged. You can feel isolated and long for someone to recognize your pain and offer some sort of comfort. This song exists to be a salve during those times. It’s only in the recognition and acceptance of our own pain that we are able to begin finding ways to transcend it and keep living.”
