Tedeschi Trucks Band Welcomes Lukas Nelson & Alam Khan At Berkeley’s Greek Theatre

Tedeschi Trucks Band welcomed two special guests during Wednesday’s Future Soul Tour stop at Berkeley’s Greek Theatre. Alam Khan joined the band on sarod for “Hold That Line” during the main set before opener Lukas Nelson teamed with Susan Tedeschi on “A Song For You” to begin the encore.

Lukas Nelson kicked off the action at The Greek last night with an hour-long set. “This is one of my favorite places. I’m happy to be here, thank y’all,” Nelson told the crowd before launching into his “Fool Me Once” opener.

The singer-songwriter nodded to legendary San Francisco band the Grateful Dead a few songs later by leading his band through “Touch Of Grey.” Nelson debuted the cover of the Dead’s 1987 hit three nights earlier in Lake Tahoe.

Tedeschi Trucks Band delivered a 23-song performance in Berkeley. Susan Tedeschi, Derek Trucks and their bandmates started the set, as they have many others this tour, with a string of Future Soul cuts: “Crazy Cryin’,” “I Got You” and “What In The World.” The group also performed the title track, “Who I Am” and “Hero” from their 2026 album by the time the night was over.

A special moment came in the middle of the set when TTB reunited with Alam Khan, who previously sat in with the band in Oakland a decade ago. The Grammy-nominated sarod player and son of late legendary musician Ali Akbar Khan joined the group on September 8, 2016 at the Fox Theater.

“We realized it’s been way too long since we played together. We should do this more often,” Susan Tedeschi told the crowd while introducing Khan.

Alam Khan wove his sarod lines with licks from Derek Trucks on “Hold That Line.” Tedeschi Trucks Band hadn’t performed the I Am The Moon track since November 15, 2024 — a gap of 92 shows.

Later in the night, Nelson emerged to duet with Susan Tedeschi on “A Song For You” to begin the encore. Nelson and Tedeschi were accompanied by TTB keyboardist Gabe Dixon on the Leon Russell cover before the band closed out the show with “I Wish I Knew (How It Would Feel To Be Free).”

Tedeschi Trucks Band and Lukas Nelson return to the stage tonight, August 13 in Santa Barbara. Nelson is also set to open on Sunday in San Diego before going his own way for a few weeks.
