Black Crowes Keep Rarities & Debuts Coming On Night 2 In Melbourne

After their year-opening concert at the venue on Thursday, The Black Crowes returned to the Forum Theatre in Melbourne, Australia on Friday. The rock ‘n’ roll band led by frontman Chris Robinson and guitarist Rich Robinson continued to roll out more live debuts and a deep cut during the second night.

Following their live premiere of “Profane Prophecy” to kick off night one in Melbourne, The Black Crowes swapped in “No Speak No Slave” to initiate night two. The first debut of the evening arrived in the form of “Cruel Streak,” a companion to “Profane Prophecy” on The Crowes new album, A Pound Of Feathers.

After Shake Your Money Maker standout, “Twice As Hard,” the band also touched on their album prior to A Pound Of Feathers, 2024’s Happiness Bastards, with “Wanting and Waiting.” Keeping with the waiting theme, The Black Crowes then knocked the dust off “Waiting Guilty.” The song has existed in the band’s live repertoire since 1990 and appeared on The Crowes’ 2013 live record Wiser For The Time.

The double LP documented a 2010 performance in New York City, the same year The Black Crowes last played “Waiting Guilty.” Following the band’s 1990 hit cover of Otis Redding’s “Hard To Handle,” another new song debut arrived in the form of “It’s Like That,” before the rockers rolled through favorites “She Talks to Angels,” “Thorn in My Pride,” “Jealous Again” and “Remedy” to close out their main set.

“You like The Beatles?” Chris Robinson asked the audience to begin the encore. “Tough shit, this is a Rolling Stones song.” With Rich Robinson on acoustic guitar, The Black Crowes then offered the excellent Exile On Main St. cut “Torn and Frayed” to seal the show.
