By Nate Todd Dec 1, 2025 10:23 am PST

On Sunday, Trey Anastasio concluded his three-night run celebrating the fifth anniversary of his 2020 Beacon Jams at the Beacon Theatre in New York City. The concert that also wrapped up Trey Anastasio Band‘s 2025 Fall Tour and contained a pair of TAB firsts, including the first public TAB performance of the Phish classic, “Slave To The Traffic Light.”

As with the original Beacon Jams, the fifth anniversary shows saw Trey Anastasio performing in various formats, including full TAB and solo acoustic with the Rescue Squad Strings and Anastasio collaborator Jeff Tanski joining on piano. The shows were also benefits for the Divided Sky Foundation. Trey Anastasio used funds raised during the original Beacon Jams to found the recovery nonprofit.

Sunday’s show got underway with the first public non-solo performance of “Just A Touch.” Anastasio unveiled the song on March 12 earlier this year during a solo acoustic run.

The Beacon Jams performance featured Trey on acoustic guitar accompanied by the TAB horns — Jennifer Hartswick, Natalie Cressman and Kenneth Whalum — on vocals. Jo Lampert — who collaborated with Phish during their 2016 Bowie Halloween show and 2023 NYE Gamhendge performance as well as with Trey during the 2020 Beacon Jams — also provided vocals.

Lampert stuck around for TAB staple “Cayman Review” before the band headed through “Back On The Train” and “Simple Twist Up Dave.” The TAB debut of “Slave To The Traffic Light” followed. The gorgeous rendition of the song Phish debuted on December 1, 1984 (41 years ago today) saw Trey switching between acoustic and electric and featured the Rescue Squad Strings and Jeff Tanski on piano.

The Rescue Squad Strings — Rachel Golub, Katie Kresek, Maxim Moston and Anja Wood — also accompanied Anastasio on “Let Me Lie” and “Shade” in the first set. Following the latter, TAB concluded the frame with the funky Phish rocker “46 Days.”

Set two began with “No Men In No Man’s Land.” The second set also featured a rendition of “Lifeboy” with just Trey on acoustic guitar and Rescue Squad Strings. Jo Lampert returned for “Drifting” and “Tube.” Another beautiful RSS and Trey solo acoustic offering arrived in the form of “If I Could” with Tanski joining in on the Hoist cut as well.

The second frame came to a close with the Phish favorite “You Enjoy Myself.” The 2025 Beacon Jams edition saw the return of RSS, Tanski and Lampert. The lyrics were changed to “boy, woman, god, shit.”

Anastasio returned to begin the encore solo acoustic with “Brief Time,” a song from his 2019 Ghosts Of The Forest album. The Rescue Squad Strings then joined Trey for “More” before the full TAB returned to seal the show with “Push On ‘Til The Day.”
