Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dave Grohl and others performed at the 25th anniversary benefit show for the Silverlake Conservatory of Music. RHCP dusted off a pair of songs they had not played in decades alongside other rarities at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles on Saturday.

Chili Peppers bassist Flea co-founded the Silverlake Conservatory of Music with former RHCP touring member Keith “Tree” Barry in 2001. The nonprofit’s mission is “to facilitate a dynamic music education and to teach beginning and accomplished musicians of all skill levels.”

Alongside Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dave Grohl and rapper Vince Staples also performed at the event in L.A. on Saturday, hosted by Marc Maron. While billed as a Dave Grohl solo set, his Foo Fighters bandmates joined him along with his daughter Violet Grohl for a set of FF staples and choice covers. Notably, the surprise Foo Fighters performance saw the band working in their rare cover of Gerry Rafferty’s “Baker Street.”

Red Hot Chili Peppers opened their portion of the show with the customary intro jam before rolling out their 2003 hit “Can’t Stop.” RHCP then broke out “Organic Anti-Beat Box Band,” off their 1987 album The Uplift Mofo Party Plan, for the first time since 2000.

The band also dipped into their 1985 record, Freaky Styley, offering “Blackeyed Blonde” for the first time since 2000 and “Nevermind.” RHCP last played the latter in 2019, but Saturday’s performance marked the first time the band performed it with guitarist John Frusciante since 1992.

Frusciante also delivered a solo rendition of Carole King’s “Will You Love Me Tomorrow?” The Gerry Goffin/Carole King composition, which King included on Tapestry, last appeared at a Chili Peppers show in 2007. Red Hot Chili Peppers concluded the performance with the classic “Give It Away.”
