Miranda Lambert Joins Kacey Musgraves For Surprise Duet In Austin

Kacey Musgraves began a two-night stand at Austin’s Moody Center in her home state of Texas on Wednesday. Musgraves welcomed fellow Texas native Miranda Lambert for a duet on “Horses and Divorces.”

The song appears on Kacey Musgraves’ 2026 album Middle Of Nowhere. The singer-songwriter’s arena tour in support of the record arrived in Texas earlier this week with a concert in Houston where Kacey paid tribute to late Tejano legend Selena.

Moving on to the Texas capital, Kacey kicked off the run on the campus of the University of Texas in Austin with Middle Of Nowhere cut “Everybody Wants To Be A Cowboy.”

All told, Musgraves offered 11 of the 13 tracks on Middle Of Nowhere, alongside older favorites such as “Slow Burn,” “Butterflies” and “Follow Your Arrow.” Kacey wrapped the show with a cover of the George Strait hit “All My Ex’s Live In Texas.”

Roughly halfway through the concert, Musgraves offered her take on Texas Tornados’ “(Hey Baby) ¿Qué pasó?” Miranda Lambert then made a surprise appearance for “Horses and Divorces.”

Lambert co-wrote “Horses and Divorces” with Musgraves and Shane McAnally and is featured on the Middle Of Nowhere studio version. The pair previously performed the song together at Gruene Hall in New Braunfels, Texas during Musgraves’ album release celebration in May.

The collaboration helped repair a relationship strained for years. Musgraves told NPR she had intended “Mama’s Broken Heart” for her own debut before it was pitched to Lambert without her knowledge. Years later, seeing Lambert riding a horse on Instagram inspired Musgraves to reach out about writing “Horses and Divorces.” Lambert recently told Southern Living the session allowed them to “air out some things we needed to say to each other.”
