Watch Jack White and Jack Black Reimagine “Seven Nation Army” on SNL

Jack White performed and Jack Black hosted the April 4 edition of Saturday Night Live, an occasion that could only be marked with a choir-backed rendition of the White Stripes’ classic “Seven Nation Army.”

Black and White’s first collaboration came early in the episode, during Black’s monologue. Joined by fellow five-timers Jonah Hill, Tina Fey (who hosted the premiere of SNL UK earlier this year), Candice Bergen, and Melissa McCarthy, Black tries to spiff up the deteriorating and cobweb-covered Five-Timers lounge. After White appears with a literal bang, knocking Domingo (Marcello Hernandez) over the head with a frying pan, the Jacks decide that the only way to fix the lounge is with, in Black’s words, “the world’s most rockin’ song.”

Later, Black sung a verse on the country ballad “Words to Live By,” played a harmonizing husband, and taught a unique self-defense course. White also performed the two new songs he shared earlier this week, ”Derecho Dominico” and “G.O.D. and the Broken Ribs.” The singles mark his first new music since 2024.

Revisit Pitchfork’s review of White’s previous album, No Name.
